Autumn is now fast approaching with the Equinox on the 22nd of September. Soon the Nature Kingdom encourages us to fall back into ourselves, nourish ourselves and give priority to self-care.
We take the lead from the Tree Spirits at this time. Slowing drawing down our sap, bringing our energy and focus inwards. Allowing our leaves to fall gracefully to our roots to nourish us over the coming Winter stillness, to re-store and build our strength for the new season of growth in the Spring.
For me personally this is my favourite time of year. I embrace and rejoice in the glowing light that shines gently and brightly through the trees, watching their leaves float to the ground as they let go with ease. I reflect on the aspects of my life where I too may be holding on too tightly. What can I release now that is holding me back? What do I no longer wish to hold onto? What is weighing me down unnecessarily?
I have found that Autumn really helps me to embrace my journalling practice. I reflect back over the past seasons, my growths and difficulties. What I achieved as well as the goals that didn't turn out as I had planned them months ago.
Summer is so full of life and busy energy. Supported by this we feel that we can do this for ever. But if we do we eventually burn-out and run out of steam, exhausted and over-whelmed. I know this is so, as I have done this myself. Particularly in the first Autumn and Winter after the loss of my Husband. I felt that if I just kept going that I wouldn't have to face how I was feeling, the emotions of my shadow self could stay deep within me and I won't have to deal with them. I quickly realised that this state of being cannot be maintained indefinitely and that I had to succumb to reflection and embrace that other side of my being. My autumn.
So I have written this post in order for you to be supported by the over lighting energies of Autumn, her golden shower of light and love. The nourishment she holds for our fragile souls. As we move through the wheel of the year and embrace fully the teachings and guidance that it has for us we can grow in an ever ascending spiral. Following the wheel doesn't me that we follow the same path over and over. With each cycle around the Sun we begin a new layer in our lives, building on the foundations of the year before. In going through through the process of reflection and release we create space for new beginnings, new opportunities and people to enter. Our lives expand as we do, growing ever brighter and feeling more of the love for ourselves that we deep crave and truly deserve.
So what can we do to bring Self-Care into our lives at this time?
Firstly, Self-Care should be a priority at all times of our lives. It is a basic requirement for our souls and bodies to give this. We are the ones in control of this. We have the power to choose what goes into our bodies, the people that we surround ourselves with and the thoughts we have about ourselves.
During the reflective time of Autumn, this priority becomes paramount. As we take the time to look at our lives from all aspects there will no doubt be things that we have been trying to avoid, maybe a darkness that we have not yet wished to face head on. Diving deep and acknowledging these parts of ourselves requires energy and kindness. We must go forward with love filled hearts. Bring out your brilliant light to shine into those shadow places. Darkness cannot survive in light, remembering this gives us courage and strength.
Journal everything, discover what no longer fits your soul and explore how this makes you feel. Then set it free, release yourself from that burden that you have been carrying. Lighten your load. In this process also focus on what makes your heart sing. Write about what your heart desires, what you would like to explore and achieve if nothing was holding you back. Dive deeply and draw the emotions into your heart, how does this feel? Bring that energy in, own it, it's yours.
Autumn is here to support in this process, allow it in, experience it. One of the ways I love to do this is to head out to the woodlands, kick the fallen leaves, hear the rustle under your feet, collect Autumn treasures of Acorns, Conkers, Chestnuts and Hazelnuts to bring the Abundance of supportive energy back into your home. Sit and breath with the Tree Spirits, gently tap into their ability to gracefully go within and feel safe to be with just yourself.
I hope that you enjoyed this post, I would love to hear how you experience Your Autumn. So please feel free to comment or drop me a personal message.
